Welcome to Year 1's class page.

Here you will find information about the curriculum, parent workshops and exciting learning your children are experiencing. You will also find a copy of the timetable and topic web attached to this page which is updated regularly.

Our class Christian Value is Creativity.

Routines

The children will have PE each Wednesday afternoon and Thursday morning. Please ensure your child has the correct kit for these sessions. They will need a white t-shirt, ever with or without the St John's logo, a pair of navy blue shorts and some black school pumps.

The children will be sent home with a reading record and reading book. This will be changed as necessary after your child has read. Please ensure the record is signed by a parent or carer as this will be checked before the book is changed. There is an expectation that the children, where possible, read 3 times per week for a small dojo reward. This can be their school book, books from home or reading on bug club.

Homework will be set half termly. The children will bring home a book which is for their homework to be completed in. This will have a sheet inside which is a homework web with 8 different tasks on. The children are expected to chose and complete 4 of the tasks and this is to be returned before half term.

Along side this the children will have weekly spellings and occasionally Maths or English which will benefit their learning inside the classroom such as sentence formation, letter formation or times table work.

If you have any questions please don't hesitate to contact me at school or via class dojo.

Thanks for for your continued support and I am really looking forward to sharing some special learning moments with your little people

Take a look at some of the exciting learning in Year 1 so far...

We have been learning how to partition numbers in math's into tens and ones. The children were able to use their numerical knowledge to split the number into tens and ones and then represent it using our Dienes. We have also been counting to 100 and are starting to develop our knowledge of one more and one less.

We have been focusing our English learning for the first few weeks on Owl Babies. We have read and explored the story, we have chosen pages to write specific facts about and develop our sentence building.

We have written super sentences using capital letters, finger spaces and full stops. The children are becoming increasingly more familiar with the phonetic ways in which to spell words.

We have been learning about different areas of Wigan. We have located different areas of Wigan on the local map and have also created our own timeline from birth to present including events such as starting school.
